Being Transformed

During the football season, everybody screams with joy or bursts into tears because they want their own side to win. We have our cultural identity, our religious identity— or our irreligious identity. When we are governed by our national or ethnic identity, we quickly fall into rivalry. To avoid a rivalry that can turn to hate, we need to discover something more fundamental....If we develop that which is most intimate in us, we are transformed. We no longer seek glory from the group; instead we become free. That is transformation.
