Martin and the Gift of Peace

There’s a peacefulness around Martin, the calmness of someone at ease with himself. He changes all our lives, with gentleness and subtlety. He is a peacemaker, someone who reconciles and guides his friends in simple, wordless ways. He is refreshing to be with, he gives you energy. When he is settling down to sleep you can hear him murmuring happily to himself, as if he’s resolving all the days events. A little while ago I awoke one night because I was worrying about something, and Martin must have been awake too, because from the neighbouring bedroom I could his gentle voice. It was like a soothing lullaby. Listening to him, I forgot my worries and drifted off into a pleasant sleep.
